Not too long ago we had placed a alpha version of our search engine, but before we launch it we need to make sure its working correctly and that it’s parsing the data, etc. We have launched a flash game search engine to try out our technology first, yubna.com. We’ll be updating that engine and testing the results until we think its ready enough for a launch and we’ll relaunch and open the AK search engine.

We will begin adding videos to the database this upcoming weekend to start AK’s universal video database.

We’re going to start moving the site once we add the new server cluster to the cabinet. Once this is done, we’ll be able to update the site more and finally start adding more features. Neat part, you can watch the update live via our webcam!

Hey everyone, we’d like to announce whats new with AK and the direction were taking with it. Over the years AK has evolved, changed and well, changed again. We’ve come up with a way to keep AK open sourced, free and community driven by creating a blog hosting site. You’re free to create any type of blog relating to anime/manga and it can be adult, just make sure to drop us a line first to check with some steps needed to take.

We’ll be moving the site off this old server on our cabinet to a cloud based system in a week. I’ve ordered a bunch of new servers to create a cloud computing network and once we move the site over, the lag should stop. I don’t know about you, but even being at the office I’ve experienced some slowness with the response of the site.

I’m working on a new front page to display the top stories in the industry for that day as well as all new incoming stories. This will pretty much resemble the tech site techmeme. We’d love for you guys to create groups and community blogs based on anything anime/manga. Your free to include your own manga designs, drawings and or comics. You can also create a fanfiction group or blog if you like, we tried to include many of the basic tools needed in the themes you can select on how to create such sites.

We’re thinking about not only releasing an IRC server for chatting, but a twitter like network for networking in real time only with the anime/manga community. This of course would be an open sourced project using status.net application.

We have moved the AK site to another server a few weeks ago and now are going to start updating the site. We have decided to keep AK open, but for open source/ free. This will be a side hobby for some of the team and myself. You’re free to keep and grow your own anime/manga community within AK.

We’re pleased to announce that we will be adding a few more neat features to the search engine, such as image search and shopping/merchandise!!

Our image search is a huge collection of web thumbnails of every site our AK bot checks and wallpapers! Yes, you will be able to shortly check for online wallpapers, photos, cosplay pics from the vast internet on AK.

Our second announcement is still in the works but will not only be a merchandise network, but a partnership system! Anyone who owns an anime, manga, jpop, jrock, Japanese, Asian distribution company/site will be able to partner with Anime Kiosk for a free month rotated ads. First we would like to thank all new and returning members to AK, like to explain best I can about where we stand today and what we’re planning in the future for AK. As many returning members know, AK was once a site dedicated to showing anime, some manga and linking in to sites. What it greatly lacked was the best way to do this, as many would know if the link  went dead, the link became pointless.

At the same time, AK was working to create a network to distribute legal anime online via streaming. Unfortunately a competitor (Crunchyroll) had jumped in before we could ever raise enough capital to even start negotiations with the Anime/Manga Industries. After spending some tens of thousands in capital, talks with some of the industry, we decided to place AK on temporary halt and work on other projects and to go back to the drawing board to redo the site’s core function.

Today – now, some three years later we have laid out our new intentions for the site, idea, and goals. Anime Kiosk will be just what the name implies, a kiosk to find everything anime, manga, jpop, hentai. We started to crawl the web about three weeks ago, this is a personalized search engine on the homepage, you will not find anything else like it. We have multiple servers working 24/7 to crawl, update, and change links. It will even get better as we increase the links, which we’re slowly doing to not cause too much strain on the databases, also an image search is already in the works and thousands of thumbnails are being taken for a visual web search engine. You can always check out the main blog about posts on whats going on with site. You can even add your site or a site you know of if it’s not indexed already by going to the add your site.

MyAK – is a personal community for our user base to create blogs, chat with friends, create and join groups, email friends, and all in all, general social networking. You can use the Comic theme to host a comic/manga on your blog. Galleries can be added as well for showing off cosplay, etc. You can link into any video sites to embed media on your blog and yes, if your site receives enough traffic, it can become an official AK networked blog and receive revenue for your blog posts.

Costs – None, there are no costs to the user. The only fees that can apply is if the user wants to have a dedicated blog networked into the AK network without banner ads and more than 5mb of hosting. We have not even discussed this yet, but its for future development. Everything you see and can access now will stay free, forever. Some users may remember OtakuShrines, the sister site of AK, well MyAK is like a super OS.
